Even with all the technical tools available to writers today, many of us still have a penchant for good old-fashioned pen (or pencil) and paper. And finding that elusive perfect notebook for scribbles, doodles, outlines, and drafts can be difficult. The Panobook is my absolute favorite notebook for writers. Always on the hunt for that perfect notebook, I backed this as a Kickstarter a few years ago. It is a little bit pricey, but has a genius design. The book is different because of it’s “Panoramic”-style that fits perfectly before your computer as you work. Studioneat designed this book with so many interesting features, and—is one of the only notebooks out there that uses a grid instead of lines. My favorite way to use this unique notebook is for storyboarding, but it’s utility goes far beyond.
2. Le Vent Refillable Notebook
The Le Vent notebook for writers has a few great options that we love. First, it has a durable cover that will survive the writer’s life, which often means lots of wear and tear as we carry these things with us pretty much everywhere we go. Second, the refillable pages are key with this notebook, as it’s difficult to invest in a durable notebook if we’re only going to get a few weeks (or days) out of it. The cover comes with a roomy pocket to help store stray notes, and even has a pen sleeve. Perhaps best of all, this notebook for writers has the option for both lined and blank pages. Writers usually seem to have a strong preference for one or the other, so we love this flexibility.
3. Sinoband 4-Pack Notebooks for Writers
If you are one of those writers who uses multiple notebooks at a time, this might be a great option. These come in packs of four, with a random selection of colors. The different colors help to keep you organized, either by project or by theme. These notebooks are the same size as an iPad mini, so will be able to slide into your favorite bag along with your tablet. The covers are made of a soft leather for durability.
4. Moleskin Classic Notebook
The Moleskin journals are among the most popular notebooks for writers for a good reason: they are well-sized, durable, and come with great quality paper. Writers love the elastic band (helps to keep any stray pages safe inside), the option for soft or hard covers, and the quality of the notebook. The paper can be used with regular or fountain pens. (And if you are a fan of the fountain pen, this is a big bonus.)
5. AHGXG Notebook for Writers
If you like a hefty notebook, this might be the one for you. This 320-pager is great for a prolific scribbler who likes to keep a single notebook going over the course of a project. This notebook comes with some great accoutrements, such as a pen holder, bookmarks, sticky notes, and pockets. If you are worried about the cover, the manufacturer uses a stitched and glued binding for durability.
